What If?

I wrote this after a break up with one of my ex-girlfriends and high school sweetheart when I was sixteen. I was just writing in my notebook and this came out. I was hurt and I wanted to try and write it.

What If?


What if I started as your friend?
 What if I wasn't scared?
Would I still be your man?
What if I didn't lie?
 What if I told the truth?
Would you have still said goodbye?
What if I treated you right?
 What if I acted like I cared?
Would you be here tonight?
What if I treated you better?
 What if I listened to your cries?
Would we still be together?
What if I didn't let them come between us?
 What if I was there?
Would love be enough?
What if I apologized?
 What if I told you I love you?
Would we be able to compromise?
What if I picked up the phone?
 What if I wiped your tears?
Would I still be alone?

Heaven's Sonnet 1

I needed to be happy and the only way I saw that happening was with my mother. The next seven poems are my attempt at writing a sonnet and creating a story of them. The story is about #suicide and was written when I was in a state of depression I know no one around me at the time could bring me out of. And I really didn't have the energy to try and get myself out of. I was a low place where I didn't care and really didn't want to live. But, I'd been told by my sister that I needed to find a reason. I needed to find a reason to go on, a reason to fight. My mother was my reason. So, in an effort to see her again, to paint an everlasting picture of her and where she is, I started the projects called Heaven's Sonnet and it turned out to be an effective suicide prevention project. Love

I haven't had a lot of luck with love in my life, so I don't write and haven't written many #poems about love. I felt that the inspiration always led to something dark and twisted, something depressing. But, being a writer, I decided to see if I could.
